What's the Plan for New England, and the People Worldwide?
What's going on in New England?
Currently, Massachusetts is coming up with a plan to raise their gas prices so that way it will produce less carbon emissions into the air, after 11 other states doing so. They are in hopes that New Hampshire and Vermont will do the same.
Usually, if a driver sees that the gas prices at one gas station are too high, they will drive somewhere else to find prices that are lower. With raising the gas prices, people would be less apt to spend as much at the gas station and drive around as much.
Massachusetts' plan is to raise the prices on gas so it can benefit the environment, and the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority). If the gas prices were raised, people would be spending a certain portion of that money towards the gas they are fueling their car with, and some of it would go towards the MBTA to help benefit public transportation.
For instance, Tesla cars were created to be electric, because they are trying to decrease the amount of gasoline being released into the atmosphere, causing them to be charged instead of fueled with gas.
What's Happening Worldwide?
All over the world, there are problems people are facing due to climate change. Global warming for instance is the reason for all the greenhouse gases. Thanks to global warming, temperatures are on the rise, and it is causing the sea levels to rise which is leading to flash floods.
So much damage is being caused due to climate change, making it very expensive to cover the damage that has been caused. Not only the oceans are being destroyed, but deforestation as well. There has been so many forest fires all over the world, killing the forests and all of the trees that millions of people rely on for supplies. Portugal in Europe is one of the places that is known to have a ton of forest fires worldwide.
Due to all of the overpopulation, the forests, and animals are dying, because more and more people stepping foot on this Earth are in need of shelter, food, clothing, an education, and supplies to live. Overpopulation is taking over everywhere. With 7.5 billion people, it's too much to handle, on top of everything that's happening with our environment. If so many animals were to die, it would effect the human life. Humans all over the world rely on animals for so many things. Those of which include oxygen, tools, clothing supplies, food, and soil.
In other countries such as Europe, they are taking part in something called the "Green Movement". The Green Movement is a political party where people are trying to get others to use harmless consumer goods against the environment, causing less damage to happen to our beautiful planet. Chief Von Der Leyen is in hopes of releasing a new carbon tax to get placed on the European borders. Their goal is to cut 65% of emissions from the environment. By doing so, it allows the air to be less polluted.

Would a gas tax cause people to buy Teslas? Aren't they quite expensive?
ReplyDeleteBe careful using "Electric Cars" as a local example. The U.S. is ranked around 15th for amount of electric cars being used. Can you give us an example of a forest fire worldwide, like in Portugal? We know what the government is trying to do but what individual things can we do?
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very good idea. Should we start doing this everywhere or just start in certain places to test to see if doing this works efficiently?
ReplyDeleteI'd say that we should start in some areas first to make sure it works, and that we don't waste our ideas all over the earth in return for it to collapse.
