Deforestation

Deforestation

It is lead to believe that deforestation is the second worst thing that is causing climate change according to the United Nations.

Everyone in this world relies on the forests with around 1.25 billion residents whether it's for food, water, or shelter. It's expected that the forests provide everyone in the United States with goods and services, costing up to $75-100 billion per year.

With all the forest fires happening, it is killing so many forests making it harder to provide the goods that we all need. The forests also produces humans with stuff like lumber so that way furniture, and paper products are created.

With deforestation, it removes vegetation that is left over, and removes carbon dioxide that is polluted into the air. Deforestation is mainly to get rid of a bunch of trees, leaving extra space left over for expansion, along with getting rid of carbon. For an example with cutting down so many trees in the forest, the government could decide whether or not to build a building, or add roads somewhere.

The amazon rain forest has lost 17% of their forest in the last 50 years mainly due to forest conversion. If deforestation continues at the same rate, the amazon will most likely lose even more than that 17%. It's not just the forests you are killing, but also the animals such as rhinos, and elephants that are dying along with it.

More than 20% of our oxygen is produced in the amazon rain forest, which provides us with the air we breathe. But because of how occurring deforestation is in the amazon, that number is expected to decrease.

Rain forests are like a sponge. They absorb all of the carbon dioxide that are in the forests, that could be floating all around the world at this moment. Tropical forests hold up to 228- 247 gigatons of carbon dioxide. That is 7 TIMES more than the amount of carbon that humans produce in only one year.

RECYCLE!!!   :)
What You Can Do to Help
  • Recycle!
  • Reduce your use of paper/ cardboard products
  • Avoid any products that has palm oil in it
  • Help support organizations to make the world a better place
  • Take action
    • Plant trees
    • and most importantly, help get involved

Global Warming

The reasoning for global warming is due to carbon dioxide and other pollutants that are being collected in the atmosphere. Sunlight and solar radiation then gets absorbed and it reflects off of the Earths surface. These pollutants have trapped the heat in, which is causing the Earth to get hotter and hotter, which will eventually lead to the sun blowing up.

There are 7 pollutants that are all causing this. Those include air pollution, light pollution, noise pollution, plastic pollution, thermal pollution, visual pollution, and water pollution. It also includes littering, soil contamination, and radioactive contamination.

Overall, there is so much going on in our world currently. Whether it is something small, or something huge like climate change issues. A little bit helps for everything, and no matter what people say how "my .001% contribution in the world won't do much"... but if you can help raise awareness that if people don't start helping now, that our world will die earlier than expected.

  1. While I agree that deforestation is a large problem, you could provide some more specifics about what is going on in the Amazon. Is the deforestation that is happening there the same as deforestation in the US, for example?

Make sure you have internal citations to make it clear where you used the information from your sources.

    1. The deforestation that happens is mainly in different areas outside of the United States, such as Indonesia, Brazil - due to the Amazon Rain forest, along with locations that boarder those spots.

  2. I like how you added what people can do to help, and while deforestation is a problem, you lacked detail on the subject, all you said is that it's a problem and we've lost forest. Also as a side note, the font was hard for me to read.

  3. I enjoyed your blog as you included lot of information on this topic and several pictures. As you've provided the list of what we can do to help, have you tried any of these?

  4. you mention a lot of key information about deforestation and global warming. You never really talked about how deforestation leads to climate change. How does it? Also the Waorani people won the landmark legal victory against Ecuadorian Government for the Amazon Rainforest, how will this affect the Amazon Rainforest? Are there any other ways Global Warming is affecting us?

    1. I really enjoyed this piece. Do you think that groups that help with the environment are actually making an impact? What can they do better?
